Labubu is a character from the designer toy series The Monsters, designed by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung. The figure has become very popular in the world of collectibles since 2018, especially in Asian countries and increasingly also in Europe, including the Netherlands. Labubu is produced by the toy company Pop Mart, which is known for releasing limited collector's series in so-called blind boxes.

Labubu originally emerged from the illustrations of the Belgian-Chinese artist Kasing Lung, who previously became known for his children's books. The character is part of a fantasy world populated by 'monsters' with childish and mischievous traits.

Labubu has a recognizable appearance with sharp teeth, big eyes and pointy ears. Although the figure looks like a monster, it is often experienced as cute and endearing by collectors. The style is a combination of dark fairytale and playful, which fits in with the visual identity of other designer toys from East Asia. The Labubu keychain is a nice addition to this.

Labubu is part of the Pop Mart range, known for its limited and themed series of toy figures. Each Labubu figure is packaged in a blind box, meaning that the buyer does not know in advance which variant he will receive. Some versions are rare and are sold for high prices on the second-hand market. The figures are especially popular among adult collectors.
